A stressful and unsettled period. Your ambitions are being stirred up and there is a desire to do something very important and show everyone how cool you are. However, the best way forward is to think thoroughly before doing anything and to direct your energy towards jobs planned earlier, rather than ideas which have just sprung into your head now.

Moon Sign

Increased emotions, vulnerability and touchiness. Your need for seclusion could become quite strong, and there is a desire to communicate only with those closest to you. It is not a good idea to deal with large groups of people, or to appear on stage. You may also want to care for others, or have others look after you. Emotional difficulties may also be an obstacle to business success.

Applying Sun Trine Pluto
This is a time when strategic proposals are likely to be met with success. It’s a good time for investigations, cleanups, purifications, renewals and renovations, and the sharing of power.

Applying Moon Square Jupiter
Situations tend to be over-rated now; don’t forget reality. Evaluate critically, feelings may be misleading. Problems have to do with overgrowth, overindulgence, overconfidence, and excesses. Pleasant and comfortable conditions, however, will probably be present in some form now.

Applying Mercury Opposite Jupiter
This is a time of important talks on issues that affect many. Opinions may clash. Moral, philosophical, or religious issues may be raised and debated. International meetings may also occur.

Applying Venus Trine Uranus
Unusual events and “firsts” occur under this interesting transit. Protests could begin or end abruptly, and group activities may appear to be erratic and unstable, but may prove productive.

Applying Mars Trine Saturn
Observance of formalities or diplomatic efforts are needed now. It’s a good time to establish guidelines for future cooperation in regard to construction projects or competitive situations.

Jupiter void in Aries
Moral and legal matters assume prominence and are used to justify broad-sweeping actions. Decisions that have required long and careful thought, or have been dragged out, are finally made. Growth trends reach a peak or a set of limits. This may be a time to sell, or buy, depending on where trends have been leading. Confidence is high but it is volatile. Important decisions or spiritual events may make news now.

Applying Saturn Square Uranus
This transit may coincide with a time of socio-political stress and even financial recession. Changes of rule and authority in many fields leave people feeling unstable and insecure. It’s a time of frustration, rigid resistance, and attacks on authorities. Transport and technological matters become problematic.

Uranus void in Taurus
Actions are unconventional, radical, or surprising. Not everyone agrees on how things should go, therefore there is discord within groups. Others, who have a specific agenda, persevere to make their point despite fierce opposition. Social conditions are volatile now. The bottom could fall out. It’s a time for experimentation and deviant behaviors. Sudden, unusual, and disruptive conditions occur now that reveal deep inequalities in society and culture.

Applying Neptune Sextile Uranus
Social movements that are ideologically driven make news by inciting episodes. Systems and structures collapse or weaken.

Pluto void in Capricorn
There is movement toward displaying outright power. Tolerance and patience are pushed aside in favor of drastic actions. Old wounds are reopened and confrontations forced. Power plays occur. Secret forces make their presence known. Some seek to act on their urges, others attempt to stop them. Deep secrets are revealed. A collective cleansing is in order.

Sunday, September 18, 2022

Retrograde Mercury opposes Jupiter today, making it a good idea to avoid jumping to conclusions. We need room to explore and create, visualize new solutions to problems, and express ourselves freely. However, we are inclined to exaggerate or miss the bigger point. It’s best to watch for a strong tendency to overstate or overestimate in our quest for meaning.

A Sun-Pluto trine later today helps us focus to our advantage. Delving deeply into a matter can be satisfying and rewarding. We’re exceptionally resourceful and efficient under this influence. It’s a vital time for gravitating towards people and situations that help us succeed or advance our goals. Shared goals and interests connect us with others. The focus now is on eliminating negative elements in our lives, particularly in the pursuit of work or health goals, so we can advance with more conviction. This transit encourages cooperation, focus, and practical ability.

The Moon continues its void period until the Moon enters Cancer at 3:59 AM EDT.

Description: Transiting Mercury Opposition Transiting Jupiter

Mentally pushing the limits — overassimilation. Interest in learning and travel. Overconfident judgments. Opinions.

VIRGO STRONG

Meticulous, discriminating, pure, practical, health conscious, hard working. Can be hyper-critical, petty and perfectionistic.

Today’s Elemental Balance

We are not very goal-oriented right now, or motivation to pursue our goals may be waning/lacking. Changes feel overwhelming. Enthusiasm may be low, we argue less, and we think more than we take action.

EARTH STRONG

Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. We are especially in touch with the physical world. We consider what we’ve learned and experienced in the past in order to make the most of the present. We can be cautious, practical, and possibly unimaginative. We are deliberate and can pace ourselves well. We need hands-on experience and are not impressed with theory as much as we are with results. Routines are tolerable and comforting.

Today’s Modal Balance

Moon Phase Cycle: Bigger Picture

Aug 27, 2022, 4:17 AM, Sun Conjunct Moon (New Moon)
Sep  3, 2022, 2:08 PM, Sun Square Moon (First Quarter Moon)
Sep 10, 2022, 5:59 AM, Sun Opposition Moon (Full Moon)
Sep 17, 2022, 5:52 PM, Sun Square Moon (Last Quarter Moon)
Sep 25, 2022, 5:54 PM, Sun Conjunct Moon (New Moon)

SEPTEMBER 18

The Moon continues its void period until the Moon enters Cancer at 9:59.

SEPTEMBER 19

Retrograde Mercury forms a sesquiquadrate with Uranus and Saturn today, pointing to possible minor missteps or surprising turnarounds. As the day advances, however, we head toward a Venus-Uranus trine, exact very early tomorrow, that brings us out of our shells. While the Moon spends the day in comfortable, protective Cancer, the Venus-Uranus transit encourages our bolder, more innovative natures, socially speaking. We are especially interested in all that is new, fresh, invigorating, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary regarding romantic involvements, entertainment or pleasures, and financial undertakings. We may be experimenting, improvising, and trying new ways of relating and expressing ourselves. We might discover alternative ways to make (or spend) money. Although a little detached, we’re freer with our feelings and find beauty in the unfamiliar or uncommon.

SEPTEMBER 20

Venus forms a quincunx to Saturn today, and we can feel torn between different desires, situations, or viewpoints. Or, the dilemma could be between pleasure and responsibility, and perhaps not able to fully appreciate or deal with either. We could also feel pulled out of our routine later today, perhaps through a confrontation, unexpected change of plans, or a strong whim. The Moon continues its transit of Cancer until 4:38 PM EDT, after which it’s in Leo, and as the day advances, we’re feeling more outgoing and interested in sharing.

The void Moon occurs from 11:57 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Leo at 4:38 PM EDT.

This week: The Sun is in Virgo until September 22nd, when the Sun enters Libra; Mercury is in Libra until the 23rd, when it returns to Virgo; Venus is in Virgo; Mars is in Gemini.

The Sun is in Virgo from August 22-September 22. Our focus shifts to the puzzle pieces–the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Attending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from “collecting” odds and ends of unfinished business.

This is an ideal time to get organized, do detailed work, and improve communications on the job. We take more pride in our work, chores, and health efforts. We also want to be more organized and informed during the Sun-in-Virgo cycle.

We’re learning humility and the benefits of developing skills, some level of perfectionism, and the importance of attention to detail. It’s a time of down-to-earth practicality when we prefer to invest our time and energy in things with realistic potential. We’re not inclined to ambition or “going big.” Attracting prosperity involves honest, careful, and attentive work and dedication.

The Sun is in Libra from September 22-October 23. Libra rules relationships with others as mirrors of ourselves. Meeting others halfway, compromise, and negotiation come under the rule of Libra. The focus is now on balance–finding balance and harmony through relationships with others and through art. Libra is the sign of the peacemaker.

However, life is not always peaceful with Libra in its attempt to restore balance. Decision-making can be more challenging while the Sun is in Libra. Libra weighs both sides of any situation, and sometimes this process seems endless! In Libra, the Sun is concerned about not rocking the boat and not rubbing others the wrong way. Tactfulness, style, tolerance, and sociability are some of the keywords for Libra. On the shadow side, Libra can be self-serving, indecisive, passive-aggressive, and superficial.

Mercury is in Libra from August 25-September 23. [Mercury turned retrograde on September 9th, returns to Virgo on the 23rd, turns direct on October 2nd, then transits Libra again from October 10-29.] When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It’s a good time to think about ways to improve our negotiation skills.

Mercury in Libra can be vacillating energy as we attempt to see both sides of any given situation. Making quick decisions can be more challenging than usual, as we can sit “on the fence.” We may too easily accommodate others’ opinions to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don’t want to assert ourselves so as to appear to be the “bad guy.” However, this is a reasonable period for considering others’ points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.

Mercury is in Virgo from September 23-October 10. [Part of this transit (from September 23rd to October 2nd), Mercury is retrograde]. When Mercury is in Virgo, precision in speech, thought, and process are more important to us. This is a time when we analyze and decide what is useful and what we deem to be impractical.

Mercury feels right at home in Virgo, one of the signs that it rules (Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo). Dealing with details is natural and easy now. We need to be careful that we don’t lose perspective if we find ourselves lost in details, however.

While Mercury is in Virgo, we should also be aware of the possibility of expressing ourselves in a too factual manner, so much so that we come across as dry, critical, or unimaginative.

We gravitate to useful information, and we can enjoy helping others with our knowledge. It’s a time for analyzing and dissecting, but we need other influences to put the pieces together or to see the bigger picture as our confidence in so doing is not strong at this time. It’s a time of conservative thinking and a strong tendency to want facts and certainties.

Venus is in Virgo from September 5-29. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just being there for our lovers. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo.

Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual, but Virgo is also quite practical and mental. In addition to our romantic natures, what we purchase and the types of entertainment we enjoy during this cycle are ruled by whether or not they make sense and serve a practical purpose.

We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent at this time. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners or relationships, picky, nervous, or worried.

During the Venus-in-Virgo cycle, we can gravitate to, and find some benefits in, holistic healing, acupuncture, yoga, and nutritional boosts. We’re keenly interested in ways to enrich our lives and boost our well-being. “Health is wealth” could be a motto now. In fact, we might enjoy health-boosting activities more than usual. Businesses promoting nutrition, wholesomeness, and well-being might prosper at this time. Commitment and attention to detail are also more prominently considered virtues now.

In love, we’re not very showy, flowery, or demonstrative. Instead, we show our love through being of service. We’re conservative with money, pleasure, and romance at this time, ready to analyze and dissect these matters. This can also be a time when helping others, particularly with good advice regarding these Venus-ruled things, can be prominent and successful. We might meet friends or lovers through our work or health-pursuits. We can take a special interest in handiwork, crafts, lists/sorting, and bookkeeping.

Mars is in Gemini from August 20, 2022-March 25, 2023. [This is much longer than usual due to a Mars retrograde cycle from October 30, 2022-January 12, 2023.]

In Gemini, Mars is versatile and flexible but not especially determined or focused. We should watch for becoming so scattered that we’re ineffective. However, it’s an excellent period for diversifying our interests and understanding the power of our communications.

It’s an excellent time for strategizing and devising useful tactics to achieve our desires and goals. We’re resourceful and clever, and we know how to use words effectively.

Perhaps most notable during this period is our tactical skills. We know how to maneuver things to get our way. We use words to charm and express anger. We’re very talkative, and animatedly so, when passionate and enthusiastic about a topic.

Jupiter is in Aries.

Jupiter is in Aries from May 10 to October 28, 2022. This is part one of two, with the second and final part occurring from December 20, 2022, to May 16, 2023. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Aries.

Jupiter will head back into Pisces from October 28 to December 20, 2022–the final part of three in the Jupiter-in-Pisces transit. Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.

Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.

Uranus symbolTaurus symbol

Uranus is in Taurus.

Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.

There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Virgo from September 5-29. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just “being there” for our lovers. Essentially, we fuss over our partners, sometimes a little too much! Our availability and accessibility is a sign of love.

Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent during this cycle. We can be a little shy and prone to worry. We pick up on many different cues, attempting to analyze every detail of our lovers’ reactions and responses. We could worry ourselves sick agonizing over details! In the process, we can miss out on the bigger and perhaps more meaningful cues.

As well, Virgo is a sign that can live very much in the mind in the middle of an experience, failing to enjoy the moment. Self-consciousness can get in the way of enjoyment. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.

This week: On Monday, the 19th, we’re willing to experiment and try new things in our relationships, which can freshen things. We’re more open to making changes or venturing into unknown territory with our feelings, tastes, and pleasures. It’s not an ideal time for making commitments, but it’s a good time to experiment and explore.

However, the following day, September 20th, we may have a hard time sealing the deal. Timing and confidence may be off.

On Friday and Saturday, we’re especially open and vulnerable, and we might protect ourselves through believing fantasies rather than the real thing (or person). We may confront our illusions or spiritual and romantic needs through another person or a relationship that seems to hold a mirror up for us to see where or how far we’ve come. Emotions and feelings can be draining due to uncertainty and we may be left to feel that decision-making is too difficult. If we haven’t been discriminating enough in love (or with money), problems can surface now for resolution. Romantic and idealistic imagination is aroused now, and we may be especially put off by anything vulgar or harsh.

MercuryOppositionJupiter Mercury opposition Jupiter. In an attempt to attach greater meaning to our thoughts and ideas, we may exaggerate, overstate, or overestimate. We strive to find both meaning and purpose to our lives. However, it is all too easy to miss or neglect important details. Our ideas and plans may be too grandiose just now. Lack of clear mental focus, but we may make measurable progress if we can focus.

SunTrinePluto Sun trine Pluto. We are able to get to the bottom of things now. We are more decisive than usual, and our abilities to concentrate and focus help us achieve what we set out to do. Endurance, the power to achieve, an opportunity to draw upon our past and to capitalize on resources, and strategy are all themes of this influence. This is a very positive aspect for starting a money-making endeavor (all things equal) or a new project. Leadership skills are in focus and strong. We are more able to connect with others in terms of shared goals and interests. The focus now is on eliminating negative or superficial elements in our lives.

MercurySesquiquadrateSaturn Mercury sesquiquadrate Saturn. Red tape, re-doing tasks you thought you finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hyper-sensitivity, and criticism.

MercurySesquiquadrateUranus Mercury sesquiquadrate Uranus. We can have flashes of insight, but tend to be scatterbrained. Our ideas and communications may not be well-received because they don’t seem to others to carry weight. Our minds are not peaceful or harmonious under this influence, and irritable tempers, sarcastic speech, and dogmatism are negative expressions of this energy. However, fresh and creative ideas may come to us now.

VenusTrineUranus Venus trine Uranus. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements as well as financial undertakings. We are ready to experiment, but not ready to commit. Creative inspiration can be had. We have an offbeat, pleasant attitude and people are more willing to socialize. A good time for financial undertakings involving electronics, technology, the internet, metaphysics, and the arts, as well as group activities.

VenusinconjunctSaturn Venus quincunx Saturn. We are extra sensitive, but it can be difficult to know why. Anxiety may overcome us when we wish to express our affections or social urges, and this hesitation can express itself through inhibitions and emotional distancing.

JupiterSemi-squareSaturn Jupiter semi-square Saturn. We could be forced to do things by the book. Shortcuts don’t work right now – we need to follow the rules. Thinking in big terms or considering expanding can cause anxiety, or obstacles and reality checks interrupt us. This may signal a time to restructure our lives or business goals. Caution and feelings of restriction temper the urge or need to grow and expand. There is no “easy fix” just now–it’s best to breathe new life into old plans rather than strike out with a new plan altogether. We might take small steps to grow while avoiding overextending ourselves to manage frustration.

SunConjunctionMercury Sun conjunct Mercury. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

VenusOppositionNeptune Venus opposition Neptune. Problems with love or money matters crop up because of our lack of the ability to discriminate at this time. It’s easy to see what we want to see, rather than what actually is. We may be more vulnerable emotionally, and thus more susceptible to deceit or self-deceit. Romantic and idealistic imagination is aroused now, and we may be especially put off by anything vulgar or harsh. If possible, put off major decision making regarding social and romantic involvements, as well as finances.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.

Venus square Mars September 16. Passions run high under this influence. Sexual tensions and competitiveness are possible, and there can be conflicts that arise from distinct differences between romantic and sexual needs. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating, creative, passionate, and invigorating.

Venus trine True North Node of the Moon September 16. We are more concerned about harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.

Venus quincunx Chiron September 16-17.  There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.

Venus trine Uranus September 19-20. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.

Venus quincunx Saturn September 20. A feeling that we may not be able to express our affections, or that our affections will not be received well, can undermine us in our relationships. Fear of rejection, emotional distancing, and over-sensitivity.

Venus opposition Neptune September 23-24. Not a good time to start a new relationship, which could be characterized by disappointments, and the tendency to feel emotionally (and sometimes financially) drained by the partner. Uncertainties about existing love.

Venus contra-parallel Neptune September 24. Confusing questions or sudden doubts can figure strongly now.

Venus trine Pluto September 25-26. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.

Venus conjunct Mercury September 25-26. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.

When the Moon is in Cancer

MoonCancer The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.

The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.

When the Moon is in Leo

MoonLeo The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

When the Moon is in Virgo

MoonVirgo We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, September 17th, from 5:52 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Sunday, September 18th, at 3:59 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Thursday, September 22nd, from 7:08 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Saturn), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Friday, September 23rd, at 3:54 AM EDT.

Figure 1 – Évolution de la distance Terre-Lune.

When do retrogrades occur, and in what sign? The following tables and images show the planets and bodies (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) and their astrological retrograde cycles by date and sign, from retrograde to direct.

A station is defined from the point of view of the Earth; it is the point when a planet appears to stop moving in the sky. The planet then appears to move slowly in the opposite direction; at this point, the planet is considered Stationary Retrograde. Similarly, once the planet makes a Station (stops) and begins to go forward again, this is called Stationary Direct.

The following shows current and upcoming Retrograde cycles of the planets. Note that the Sun and the Moon never retrograde. Dates given reveal not only the Retrograde periods, but also the Retrograde zones or shadows.
