This week: The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Libra until November 5th, after which Mercury is in Scorpio; Venus is in Sagittarius until November 5th, after which it’s in Capricorn; Mars is in Scorpio.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio–we want to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair.
Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
We are more likely to prosper through strategy and knowing the value of keeping some things to ourselves at the right times. Efforts to repurpose, recycle, salvage, and transform can be successful. We’re especially successful at organizing, researching, investigating, and analyzing.
While we can be quite controlled with effort, there is some inclination to extremism. We can be drawn to challenges and crises, and we feel compelled to heal, fix, and direct or manage.
Mercury is in Libra from August 30-November 5. [This is longer than usual due to Mercury’s retrograde, occuring entirely in the sign of Libra, from September 27-October 18.] When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It’s a good time to think about ways to improve our negotiation skills.
Mercury in Libra can be vacillating energy as we attempt to see both sides of any given situation. Making quick decisions can be more challenging than usual, as we can sit “on the fence.” We may too easily accommodate others’ opinions to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don’t want to assert ourselves so as to appear to be the “bad guy.” However, this is a reasonable period for considering others’ points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.
Mercury is in Scorpio from November 5-24. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and arrive at reasonable solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover.
We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried, the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations.

Three wounded in knife attack on German train

The attack took place at a tense time in Germany, which faces terror threats from jihadists and right-wing extremist groups
Berlin (AFP) - Three people were wounded in a knife attack on a high-speed train in southern Germany on Saturday, local police said, adding a suspect had been arrested.
Officers said the danger was over and a 27-year-old man was in custody, with unconfirmed media reports claiming the suspect was of Syrian origin and suffered from psychiatric issues.
The motive for the attack on the passenger train, making its way from Bavaria to the northern city of Hamburg with roughly 300 people on board, was not yet clear.
Local prosecutors are handling the case rather than the federal officials who would deal with suspected terrorism.
The three victims were being treated in hospital, said police in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, adding that none had suffered life-threatening injuries.
- ‘Horrible’ attack -
The ICE high-speed train was halted in the station of Seubersdorf, southeast of Nuremberg, and travel on the line was suspended.
“This knife attack is horrible,” Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said on Twitter.

“I would like to thank everyone, especially the police and the train staff, for their brave action, which prevented something even worse from happening.
“The motive for the crime is still unclear and will now be determined.”
The attack took place at a tense time in Germany, which faces terror threats from jihadists and right-wing extremist groups.
Islamist suspects have committed several violent attacks in recent years, the deadliest being a truck rampage at a Berlin Christmas market in December 2016 that killed 12 people.
The Tunisian attacker, a failed asylum seeker, was a supporter of the Islamic State jihadist group.
- ‘Radical Islamists’ -
Seehofer said earlier this year that German authorities had foiled 23 attempted attacks since 2000.
“Germany and Western Europe are still in the sights of radical Islamists,” he warned at the time.
Since 2013, the number of Islamists considered dangerous in Germany has increased fivefold to 615, according to the interior ministry.
Several attacks or attempted attacks were carried out by asylum seekers who arrived in Germany during the 2015 migration crisis.
Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the country’s doors to some 900,000 asylum seekers.
German officials believe the attackers planned their acts alone, unlike some of the attacks in France in 2015 that were ordered by the Islamic State jihadist group.

The final passage of the huge infrastructure deal marks a resounding victory for US President Joe Biden
Washington (AFP) - US President Joe Biden on Saturday hailed congressional passage of his $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan as a “monumental step forward” after months of tough negotiations.
Speaking from the White House, he also insisted that both houses of Congress would pass a separate and even bigger social spending package – the “Build Back Better” plan – despite infighting between the progressive and moderate wings of his Democratic Party.
The breakthrough on infrastructure came shortly before midnight Friday when House lawmakers finally approved a Senate-passed bill by a comfortable 228 votes to 206.
“I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to suggest that we took a monumental step forward as a nation” with that vote, Biden said.
He called the plan “a once-in-a-generation investment that’s going to create millions of jobs,” saying it would also put the country “on a path to win the economic competition of the 21st century that we face with China” and other countries.
Looking directly into the camera to address voters across the country – many of them concerned about rising prices, Covid restrictions and political division – Biden said, “This bill is for you… a blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America.”
Early Friday, passage was far from assured.
Despite hours of cajoling lawmakers, party leaders had risked seeing Biden’s two-pronged legislative strategy collapse as they failed to unite the party’s feuding progressive and moderate factions.
The legacy-making vote Friday came at a pivotal time for Biden, as he faced plunging personal approval ratings and a humiliating upset defeat for his Democratic Party in the Virginia gubernatorial election.
His spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the success was “proof that delivering for the American people is worth all the painful sausage making.”
“Clean drinking water for kids, broadband access, electric vehicles, biggest investment in public transit. It’s happening. And more to come,” she tweeted.
