Sun conjunct Mercury. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or worse!
Mars semi-square Saturn. We are called upon to solve problems, or our plans and efforts meet with resistance. Circumstances seem to block our efforts to assert ourselves. Patience is necessary now, although frustration is very likely. It can feel like more effort than usual is required to complete tasks.
Sun semi-square Neptune. Our willpower is low as we stray from our goals and temporarily lose focus. It’s difficult to formulate — or stick to — clear goals during this transit. Concentrating on artistic or spiritual pursuits is better than focusing on matters that require straightforward, factual thinking today. It can be difficult knowing where or how to direct our willpower under this influence. It’s also a challenge knowing where we stand with others. Avoid such things as scheduling surgery, important appointments, job interviews, or launches of new projects at this time.

What is Venus Retrograde? Occasionally, Venus appears to be moving backward in the sky. “Appears” is the key word here, because, technically speaking, no planet actually moves backward in their orbits around the Sun. In fact, they don’t even slow down.
Retrograde-station-direct cycles are essentially illusions that result from our point of view from Earth, simply because the Earth is also orbiting the Sun at a different speed than the other planets. Venus is Retrograde approximately 40-43 days every 18 months.
Venus stations and turns retrograde on December 19th in 2021 in the sign of Capricorn and continues in retrograde motion until January 29th in 2022.

Retrograde Venus and Love & Relationships
On the subject of love, past lovers may re-appear, and some relationships may end. With Venus retrograde in Capricorn, our fear of rejection may be strong. We might also be re-assessing whether a relationship is contributing to–or taking away from–our ambitions and goals. How people are getting along on the job can come into strong focus. Capricorn rules protocol and our sense of decorum. We might feel especially annoyed or turned off by those who are stepping over the line.
Old friends and lovers may re-appear, perhaps complicating current relationships. We are called upon to deal with relationship issues from the past during this Venus retrograde cycle. Events occur that seem fated or predestined. It can be a real challenge getting close to a lover during this period. Unorthodox, experimental, and non-intimate relationships may be favored.
Affection is difficult to express in a natural or spontaneous manner. We might find others are lacking in sincerity or genuineness in their expressions of social niceties. (We may be inclined to do the same!).
Some of the more challenging associations of Venus in Capricorn may be particularly prominent and/or hard to take, and these include materialism and coolness with expressing affections. Those who have Capricorn strong in their charts may be more introspective, distant, or hard to reach during this cycle. They may not be in as favorable light just for the time being, they may be reconsidering things, or people can misunderstand their intentions.
Relationships that have been especially challenging may come to an end during this cycle. However, strong relationships will survive it, even if there are a few bumps and bruises along the way. This can be a good time for “eyes wide open” or experimental dating, although opinions and assessments may change at a later date. It is not a time when people recognize the need for another person to “complete” them. Some people may be questioning whether they are with partners who truly fulfill them.
We may, however, be especially in touch with our deeper, less obvious, and less superficial needs and wants. This makes it a good time for re-evaluating our relationship needs; but, again, major love decisions are best saved for after the cycle ends on January 29th, and better yet, beyond the shadow phase as well (after March 1st, 2022). Our perceptions may be skewed, and we can come out of the retrograde cycle with regret if we’ve acted hastily, as the tendency to change our minds later is strong.
Venus Retrograde and Money & Finances
On the subject of money, finances, and possessions, do try to hold off on major purchases or financial decisions during this Venus retrograde cycle. For example, the purchase of a new house, car, or another big-ticket item could backfire in some manner later on. They may become money pits or cause problems for you, or you may change your mind later and regret your purchase. However, if you’re particularly skilled at sniffing out good buys, this can be a great time for finding unusual items at low prices as, during a retrograde Venus period, people may be more willing to get rid of things they may not part with under normal circumstances.
Best Practices While Venus is Retrograde
There’s nothing truly to fear about Venus retrograde, but it’s always wise to take special care during this cycle. It’s not the best period for entering into a new relationship because our sensors when it comes to love are not up to par. However, it’s not unheard of to begin a relationship under the influence of a retrograde Venus, and the relationship survives and/or thrives.
Venus rules our values, and when retrograde, we don’t seem to be in touch with exactly what and who we value, or, some might say we see things more or too clearly. After the retrograde cycle is over, we may look back and wonder what we were thinking. So, do what you can to avoid major decision-making during Venus’ retrograde period, but pay attention to your assessments to see if they last. A change of heart is possible later.
And, the people we meet now may appear more fabulous than they turn out to be. It’s also possible that some people we meet now may seem less attractive than they turn out to be! Whatever the case may be, try to hold off until March 2022 before making big decisions, particularly life-altering ones.
Interestingly, we may not be as openly or obviously warm and affectionate during this cycle. It’s hard to trust others just now, and, perhaps more so, it’s difficult to trust our own instincts when it comes to judging others or our relationships. We tend to suspect insincerity in others. People might appear to be more selfish, withdrawn, and self-protective. It’s hard to make headway in a direct manner in our love relationships for the time being. If you are hoping to fix a relationship or if you are trying to schedule a reunion, it may not be the best time to do so.
When breakups do occur in the second half of a Venus retrograde cycle, I have noticed they are imperfect. They are not often clean breaks. Couples and friends may reunite later, or if they stay broken up, they might frequently wonder if it was the right thing to do – something is left hanging.
Venus retrograde is a period for clearing the decks and dealing with the past so as to move forward fresh and re-energized, and this is especially appropriate in the first three weeks of the cycle. During the second half of the retrograde cycle, watch for impulsiveness.
Then there is a feeling of the inevitable during a Venus retrograde. What happened in the past, including past love affairs, can flood our consciousness now. Sometimes, a past lover reappears in their physical form.

CAZIMI
A planet or the Moon within 16 minutes of a conjunction with the Sun is said to be cazimi which is a very fortunate position for a planet. The angular distance corresponds to the apparent diameter of the Sun, which is 32′. It seems that various astrologers use cazimi by longitude although some approve cazimi both by longitude and latitude as Bonatti mentioned.

Orbs are considered according to the planet rather than to the aspect. An orb is like an aura around a planet. Opinion varies about the exact orb. The Sun has a large orb, 15 degrees to 17 degrees, but this only means 7 degrees to 8 degrees on each side of the Sun. Such a half-measure of the whole an orb is called the moiety of the orb. Any planet within an orb of 8 degrees of the Sun and in the same sign is called combust. Its strength is sapped by the Sun — unless the planet involved is Mars. The Moon is particularly debilitated when combust. I do not usually judge charts that have a void in course Moon, even if it is found in Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius or Pisces. However, not all void in course Moons are the same. If the Moon is at 28 degrees of a sign, separating from a planet at 27 degrees and applying to a planet at 0 degrees, it is doubtful whether you can actually call this Moon void. In addition, a Moon at 29 degrees is at the end of its void course and if her next aspect is within the moiety of the two planets’ orbs, I would judge the chart (p.9)

The Moon conveys the message from other celestial bodies. When the Moon is not in a good state, sometimes the result which comes out from a firmament may not reach the realm under the Moon (the world we live in), or it may reach falsely, although it seems to be good with other planets above the Moon. That is during the void-of-course time period, the result from the firmament does not arrive accurately. It does not mean nothing happens.
For instance, at the boxing title match, even if the chart indicates the victory of a challenger, the result does not reach the ground when the Moon is void of course. In other words, the champion wins because a void Moon signifies no change in the situation (p.118).

Via Combusta is known as Burnt Path, Fiery Path, or Fiery Road, the last 15 degrees of Libra to the first 15 degrees of Scorpio, although not all astrologers agree on the exact distance as shown in late part of this page. It is believed to be an area of misfortune. Also, it’s said when the Moon is found in this position the astrologer must be cautious when giving judgment.

'Heating or eating': Britons struggle with rising costs

Most foodbank produce is donated by members of the public
Colchester (United Kingdom) (AFP) - Nestled amid superstores at a retail park, the Colchester Foodbank in eastern England last year gave out a total of 165 tonnes of food – enough to feed 17,000 people.
But that could be surpassed this year, as British annual inflation hits a 30-year high of 5.4 percent in December, as real wages fall, and food and energy costs rise.
“We think we’re likely to feed 20,000 people in 2022,” said foodbank manager Mike Beckett. “If there is a slowdown, and things get worse, it might be as many as 25,000 people.
“That is certainly a bit of a nightmare. Our worst case scenario is maybe 30,000 people.”
About 95 percent of the produce at the foodbank, run by the Trussell Trust charity, comes from members of the public donating at collection points at local supermarkets.
But the current economic climate has forced many who wouldn’t normally need food parcels to seek assistance.
“I normally put something in the foodbank trolley but now it’s my turn to have some help,” said Heidi, 45, who said she was struggling with price rises on “just everything”.
“I’m struggling big time, basically. Bills have got really high, that’s why I’m here,” she said.

Like many in Britain, this winter she will have to make the tough choice between “heating or eating”.
“My electricity is going up. I’m putting in probably about £80 (95 euros/110 dollars) a month now, as opposed to 40 or 50 last year,” she said.
- ‘Fundamentally flawed’ -
The Trust says the number of people receiving three days worth of emergency food from its centres across Britain has risen from some 26,000 in 2009 to over 2.5 million in 2021.
British food writer and anti-poverty campaigner Jack Monroe noted after the latest inflation rise this week that the actual cost of many food staples has gone up by much more.

The cheapest pasta at her local supermarket a year ago cost £0.29 for 500 grams (around one pound) while today it is £0.70 – a hike of 141 percent.
The cheapest rice was £0.45 for one kilogram but now costs £1.00 for 500g.
“That’s a 344 percent price increase as it hits the poorest and most vulnerable households,” she wrote in a viral Twitter thread read by millions.
“The system by which we measure the impact of inflation is fundamentally flawed – it completely ignores the reality and the REAL price rises for people on minimum wages, zero hour contracts, food bank clients, and millions more.”
Manager Beckett agrees that “however you measure inflation doesn’t really account for the cheap food going up, and it’s going up by hundreds of percent.”
Low-income families are under extra pressure after the government returned welfare benefit payments to pre-pandemic levels, having increased them temporarily during lockdowns.
Beckett says that in 2020 – “a bumper year” – 42 percent of the food bank’s clients were children.
“People come and report that it’s taken them 20 minutes or an hour in their car to get up the courage to come in,” he said.
“They didn’t think they’d ever need to, they don’t want to use the food bank, but they don’t have a choice because they love their kids.
“The question is, when things are cold, people have to choose between eating or heating.”

In a report published this month, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation noted that “for children, severe food insecurity has been linked to chronic health conditions like asthma and depression”.
A poor diet “will impede a child’s physical, cognitive and emotional development. Adults in food-insecure households have higher rate of developing chronic diseases such as arthritis, asthma, diabetes and mental health issues,” said the report on UK poverty in 2022.
The anti-poverty charity noted “key design features of the social security system that directly lead to higher food insecurity and have contributed to the rise in food bank use”.
They include having to wait a minimum of five weeks before getting initial benefit payments such as Universal Credit.
Others point to the fact that child benefits are capped at two children.
The cost of living in Britain is forecast to soar even higher in April owing to a tax hike and further planned increases of around 50 percent to domestic energy bills.
More painful tax increases are expected to foot the vast bill for Covid.

As a result, even more households across Britain will face fuel poverty, spending more than 10 percent of their total income on fuel.
“There’s a lot of people in this situation who have never been in it before,” says foodbank client Heidi.
“Everyone should put something in (at collection points). Because you never know when you’re going to be in this situation. And I certainly didn’t think I’d be in it.”

Israeli firm develops body cams with facial recognition

Kfar Adumim (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Twenty years after he planned the controversial barrier between Israel and Palestinians, Dany Tirza is developing a security tool that requires no cement: body cameras with facial recognition technology.
Tirza, a former Israeli army colonel, says his company Yozmot Ltd aims to produce a body-worn camera enabling police to scan crowds and detect suspects in real time, even if their faces are obscured.
Facial recognition in law enforcement has sparked global criticism, with US tech giants backing away from providing the technology to police, citing privacy risks.
Proponents including Tirza, however, tout its ability to track down criminals or missing persons.
“The policeman will know who he is facing,” he said.
- ‘It’s easy’ -
Tirza, 63, spoke to AFP from his home in Kfar Adumim, a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank.

The technology allows clients to build databases, whether of company employees allowed into a building, ticket holders permitted into a stadium, or suspects wanted by the police, Watts said.
He said Australian and British police were already piloting the technology.
The facial recognition industry was worth about $3.7 billion in 2020, according to market research firm Mordor Intelligence, which projected growth to $11.6 billion by 2026.
Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon and IBM have all declared temporary or permanent freezes on selling facial recognition programmes to law enforcement.
France last month ordered the US-based Clearview AI to delete data on its citizens, saying the company violated privacy when it built a facial recognition database using images “scraped” from the internet.
Watts called Clearview’s actions “abhorrent” and said Corsight AI did not sell to China, Russia or Myanmar because of “human rights and ethics”.
“What we want to do is promote facial recognition as a force for good,” he said.
He said Corsight had hired Tony Porter, the United Kingdom’s former surveillance camera commissioner, as chief privacy officer, and that the software would blur or delete faces deemed not of interest within seconds.
Corsight AI was valued at about $55 million in a recent funding round, Watts said, estimating this would grow to $250 million by year’s end and noting the technology’s potential.
“Why do I need a credit card? I don’t, I’ve got a face,” he said. “The consumer will very, very quickly and readily adopt facial recognition because it’s easy.”

Corsight CEO Watts said his company has “a number of contracts in Israel – governmental contracts and agencies”, but declined to elaborate, citing non-disclosure agreements.

But Tirza praised its use at checkpoints, saying the main aim was to reduce “friction” between soldiers and residents.
